Danielle Forde Blitz 2022
A fantastic day's football was played in Donoughmore GAA pitch on Sunday 4th September, 2022. Sixteen teams of U10 players from 10 clubs competed in groups of four. Everything ran smoothly. The standard of football was outstanding and some wonderful football skills were on display. As per the rules, every player got game time. The spectators were treated to some very exciting matches and potential future Cork inter county players were very much in evidence on the day. Parents should be justifiably proud of their daughters not only for the standard of football played but also for the very sporting way they played with little or no fouls and those very few fouls were all unintentional. Clubs should also be very proud of their team mentors who followed the 'Silent Sideline' rule and encouraged and praised the players on all teams.
Thank you to referees, Dan O'Mahony, Ken Whelan, Denis O'Shea and Derek Coakley.
Thank you to Donoughmore LGFC & Donoughmore GAA for coming up trumps again in providing the pitches on the day. We especially thank the stewards who assisted with the traffic and parking and to all the volunteers under the supervision of Margaret O'Connor who provided teas, coffee, sandwiches and cakes. We were very privileged to have the Cork LGFA President and Donoughmore Clubman, John Kelleher, present at the blitz.
The Forde family were present all day at the blitz. Danielle's father, Donie, spoke a few words at the presentation of the medals. He said that the Forde family were delighted that after the break with COVID that Mid Cork LGFA were able to continue the blitz in memory of his late daughter, Danielle. He was delighted to see so many young players, full of enthusiasm and hoped that they would all continue playing with their friends into the future. The competition rules have changed with no winning team presentations. Instead all of these players are winners and each received their winning medal.
